FRANKENSTEIN
This is the Strat shaped guitar, right and on the front cover of the album VHI, over the years through respraying and replacements through wear and tear it metamorphasised into the red, white and black axe
CHARVEL
This frienship with Charvel lead to Eddie using various parts he got there (Yellow Stripe below) along with the Charvel Star. And in 2004 for Eddie to go back to his roots and produce signature Charvel guitars (though Wayne is not involved with Charvel anymore it being part of the Fender company). Using the original black stripe, yellow stripe & candystripe finish.
KRAMERS
Ed started to endorse Kramer after using their necks on Frankenstein but when it had to be retired Ed made a replacement from custom Kramer parts at their factory on New Jersey, the battered 5150 above top - custom Kramer neck with asymetrical back shape and Pacer Special body, with an original Floyd Rose locking trem and a custom wound humbucker pickup in the bridge position, Custom stripe painted by Ed with Krylon spray cans. Various versions of this were used from the 1984 album until Eds deal with Ernie Ball / Music Man. Ed had a number of other Kramers - a few Pacers and Barettas the latter idetntified by the bridge pickup being slanted unlike the 5150, as well as the Ripley Stereo.
ERNIE BALL / MUSIC MAN
From 1991 Ed started using his signature Ernie Ball / Music Man (right) a radical departure from the battered Frankenstein / Kramers into high class PRS style 'furniture' guitar with amazingly 2 pickups.
* BODY - basswood with bookmark quilt maple top with no contouring
* NECK - Birdseye maple oil finished 10" radius fretboard 22 frets
* PICKUPS - 2 DiMarzio designed humbuckers directly screwed to the body with 1 volume control and 3 way selector switch on lower bout
* BRIDGE - Gotoh Floyd Rose locking trem
PEAVEY WOLFGANG
This didn't represent such a great change as the Music Man with the differences being. The pickups and hardware changing to Peavey produced the 3 way control switch moving from the lower bout to the bass bout the addition on the production models of a master tone control (Ed originally suggested having 2 volumes one for each pickup) and the body now has a carved top.
STEINBERGERS
Ed is a big fan of the Steinberger TransTrem (which unlike standard trems raises and lowers all the strings in pitch and can be locked in various keys) He had thought of endorsing Steinberger guitars before Music Man but wasn't keen on the active EMG pickups and the synthetic body and neck materials. He has had standard guitars spoecially fitted with TransTrems
YELLOW STRIPES - pictured on the back cover of VH II Ed another put together from parts Ed didn't like its sound and only used it because it looked good
IBANEZ DESTROYER - pictured on the front of Women & Children First this was used on many of the Roth era albums when he didn't require a trem (You Really Got Me), Ed really regrets hacking the big lump out of the back as it destroyed the tone of the korina body
FENDER - (another possible endorsement before Ernie Ball / Music Man) various Strats & Teles, Tele used on Runaround
GIBSON - 1958 Korina wood Flying V - used on Hot For Teacher, Top Of The World
GIBSON - 6/12 string double neck - on Secrets
CORAL SITAR - on Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love
STRINGS - very light bass strings 9-11-15-24-32-40 Ernie Ball made custom 5150 pure nickel sets while Eddie endorsed them
